Building blocks for climate justice

Concrete political measures for a climate-friendly future

A climate-friendly society requires a fundamental restructuring of the economy and society.

This affects all sectors and encompasses a wide range of measures. In 2022, we will work with other actors from social movements, NGOs, and trade unions to compile concrete transformative policies for various sectors. The focus will be on climate-effective measures for socio-ecological transformation over the next 5 to 10 years, which are characterized by three things:

1. The measures aim at structural changes in our growth-based, profit-oriented and globalized economic system.

Only measures that break with these principles and inequality will truly make our society fairer, more democratic, more sustainable and more resilient to crises.

2. The measures focus on social rather than technical innovations.

They help fill the major gap in the current political agenda of ecological modernization, which narrows climate policy to technical solutions and fails to address social issues. They call for a socio-ecological transformation beyond price mechanisms and technological innovations.

3. The measures represent concrete, feasible next steps for which there is a high level of social acceptance and thus a realistic perspective for implementation.

We identify the various social forces that are already supporting these measures or that can potentially be won over, and formulate strategies for their social implementation within the framework of civil society alliances.
