For some time now, we have been offering regular ESD seminars for teacher training students of all disciplines at Leipzig University. We cooperate with the university's Center for Teacher Education and School Research. In addition to an introduction to ESD, the seminars focus on how teachers can address the many crises and challenges of our time in their interactions with their students.
- How can ESD support self-efficacy, hope and courage for socio-ecological change?
- What social structures and characteristics of education stand in the way of this?
- What inspiring examples of learning cultures, educational formats and extracurricular learning locations are there?
- Where are alternatives lived, and where is learning done with all the senses? How do they deal with crises? What are their limits?
Accordingly, the seminars always include a very concrete examination of places of lived alternatives in Leipzig. These are analyzed in the students' work with regard to the above-mentioned questions – often combined with actual on-site visits. Our publication is available for the seminar. “Transformative Learning through Engagement – A Handbook for Cooperation Projects between Schools and Non-School Stakeholders in the Context of Education for Sustainable Development” a big help.
Most recently, we implemented seminars in the winter semester 2023/2024, the summer semester 2024, the winter semester 2024/2025 and the winter semester 2025/2026.
