Care for global justice
An interview with Lina Hansen
For three days, we discussed and networked on the topic of care work in times of the coronavirus crisis and global justice. The conference was held in five languages, partly in parallel in Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, English, and German. A panel discussion, a keynote speech, and 13 workshops provided insights from Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Colombia, and Brazil. We are particularly pleased about the international participation in the conference, especially because, in times of the global pandemic, it is all the more important to learn and experience from one another.
In their workshop on Care and Migration, speakers Tetiana Goncharuk and Frauke Linne used the example of 24-hour care to illustrate the shockingly precarious working conditions of Eastern European (female) nurses in Germany. As part of a Facebook project, Tetiana Goncharuk is facilitating a network of these nurses for the first time in three years.
Speakers Laura Huitaca, Mariana Borel, and Ana Paula Martins also reported on the projects they initiated in Colombia and Brazil. They support FLINTA people during lockdowns and social isolation, and fight domestic violence and poverty among FLINTAs.
*FLINTA: Women, lesbians, inter-, non-binary, trans and agender people

Kerstin Schubert also spoke about a solidarity-based healthcare system and the practical example of polyclinics. Health is political! → Polyclinic Syndicate is a model project for health care for all people regardless of status and income.
These are just a glimpse into the diverse program. Despite the online format, the conference demonstrated that approaches to a care-centered economy and feminist lifestyles exist everywhere!
Let’s continue working on this together.
Many thanks to everyone who made this fantastic conference possible: to the organizing committee for their months of preparation, to the speakers and artists for their inspiring contributions, and to the participants for their attentiveness. Many thanks also to everyone who made this international conference possible: the interpreters and logistics staff, the awareness team and childcare staff, and everyone who moderated, cooked, and provided technical support.
