Whether it's people, goods, or data, everything is increasingly being moved digitally. Together, we want to explore the promise of efficiency behind digitalization and the potential digital technology can have for socio-ecological transformation. This project was an attempt to rethink the design of digital technology from a critical socio-ecological perspective.

How can digital processes in the areas of mobility, logistics and communication be designed in a democratic, social and ecological way?

Digital technology is permeating more and more areas of our lives and society. Its impacts are complex: digital technology not only has a massive ecological footprint, but also changes our communication and work, shifts power relations, and influences our opportunities for democratic participation. Because digital technology impacts multiple dimensions, our project focuses on various topics. In the three areas of mobility, logistics, and communication, we bring together experts with diverse perspectives on each field in various formats.
With representatives from environmental organizations, trade unions, academia, civil society, and tech movements, we aim to analyze, discuss, and understand how digital data production and processing has changed these areas so far, which mechanisms are at work there, and what socio-ecological consequences are associated with them. Building on this, we aim to develop criteria that should guide the use of data-based systems from a socio-ecological perspective. Based on these, we will derive concrete steps and political demands. We will publish the results of the seminars as contributions on this website.
Through public panel discussions and workshops for multipliers, we will then invite a broader public to engage with socio-ecological perspectives on digital data production and processing, gain new food for thought, and encourage them to actively engage with the topic and develop their own critical stance.
