#4 Educators at their limit

How they are fighting for better care in Saxony

Hand with yellow cleaning glove crushes a bouquet of flowersPart of the project: Thanks for nothing

How are educators in Saxony doing? Under what conditions do they do their work, and above all: How do they organize themselves to oppose cuts in the social sector?

In the fourth episode, we speak with Maria, a preschool teacher and Verdi union activist, about the situation of preschool teachers in Leipzig and Saxony. In Leipzig, preschool teachers and parents have been protesting in recent months for better staffing levels, improved staff-to-child ratios, and against budget cuts. We find out what preschool teachers are demanding, the power of alliances, and the role unions play in their labor struggles.

In the news, we also look at the strike of the Lieferando riders in Leipzig and discuss the recent cuts to counseling projects for queer refugees in Saxony. In the vision segment, Marie from the #LiegendDemo initiative tells us what good care for people with ME/CFS and long COVID could look like.

Are you a childcare worker yourself? Do you have friends who want to advocate for better conditions in daycare centers? Then come to the monthly meeting for all colleagues in social and educational services in Leipzig and the surrounding area: Every third Thursday of the month at the Volkshaus (Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 30-32, 04107 Leipzig)!
