The 32 social movements, alternative economic currents, and initiatives gathered here are seeking alternatives to the prevailing economic model. They are calling for a paradigm shift: away from a focus on competition, the pursuit of profit, exploitation, and growth—and toward greater cooperation, solidarity, and an orientation toward concrete needs. The goal is to create the conditions for a good life for all. But what are the different paths to a socio-ecological transformation? What hurdles need to be overcome? Which groups are involved, who does what, and what is their relationship like? What alliances are possible? These questions were explored by the movement's protagonists in a two-year networking and writing process. The resulting contributions motivate people to take action and become involved.
