Digitalized capitalism

Learning to shape the economy democratically

Part of the project: Finally Growth – The Update

Digital technology is transforming not only our everyday lives, but also the world of work and the economy as a whole—worldwide. Markets for goods and services are changing, and new employment relationships are emerging.

The educational methods address how digitalization is changing life, work, and the economy individually and structurally. They examine the often ambivalent effects this has on the environment/climate and societies, and how digital technology can be designed and used in a more democratic and socially and ecologically just manner. The methods address, on the one hand, the ecological and social costs of the production, use, and disposal of digital devices; their global interrelationships, and the impact on working for and with digital technology. On the other hand, there are chapters addressing questions surrounding data, data processing, democracy, and the (concentration of) power.

The methods impart fundamental knowledge and are intended to encourage understanding and questioning of changes and continuities in digitalized capitalism. They aim to support people in making decisions about digital technology in everyday life and in political action, in the spirit of critical-emancipatory education.

The educational material was supported as part of a cooperation with the State Center for Political Education Saxony-Anhalt.
