"Radical" proposals for a Green New Deal (GND) attempt to harness the idea's great mobilizing potential for a deeper socio-ecological transformation. However, they remain vague regarding the question of how and where the development path of such a transformative GND should detach itself from a re-social-democratized "green" capitalism.
This article proposes understanding a radicalized GND as a possible transformative building block within a three-part transformation strategy inspired by EO Wright, which envisions "symbiotic" reform measures in conjunction with the expansion of non-capitalist spaces. Both would be effective through the organization of counter-power on an expanded social basis, which could ultimately also enable a post-capitalist transformation through targeted property struggles.
