In this book, published on the occasion of the "Bits & Trees" conference (2018 in Berlin), over 50 authors from the tech scene, the sustainability movement, and development cooperation demonstrate how digitalization and socio-ecological change can go hand in hand. The contributions examine the impacts of digital consumption in the Global North on the Global South, the sustainable use of data, and the risks and potential of a digitalized economic system. The focus is always on the pressing question: What kind of digitalization do we want? The diverse answers to this question make it clear: A sustainable digitalization must be oriented less toward the interests of individual economic actors and more toward the common good. Selected contributions from "Bits & Trees," as well as numerous infographics and portraits, provide food for thought and action on how digitalization can make the world a better place.
