Organizational development as decolonial practice

"Walking the talk" – putting words into action. Sounds easy. But in organizations or groups, it's often challenging to truly implement the core values they publicly uphold. Societal influences and external pressures frequently lead to reproducing precisely what is rejected.

In this event, we will explore the following questions: From organizational culture to target groups – how can we build and embed decolonial structures and practices within our organization? Who is involved – and in what way? What does it mean to be a "learning organization"? What prerequisites are helpful? How can we avoid being overwhelmed? Are concepts such as the so-called "Whole Institution Approach" helpful?

Valerie Viban and Christina Schug from Bread for the World will speak about these issues from their organization's perspective. The event will also serve as a forum for exchanging experiences.

Speakers:

Christina Schug is an education officer at Bread for the World, focusing on educational materials, seminars and multiplier work, as well as the weltwärts volunteer service. Her work prioritizes raising awareness of global issues, anti-racist and decolonial reflection, and incorporating partner perspectives from the Global South.

Valerie Viban is an expert on anti-racism and decoloniality at Bread for the World. He works on addressing colonial continuities in development cooperation and church partnerships, combining political analysis, ethical reflection, and perspectives from partner organizations in the Global South. Through public events, publications, and dialogue formats, he promotes a critical examination of history and advocates for more just global relations.

Language: German and English spoken language with simultaneous interpretation in both directions.
