The climate crisis is profoundly unjust: Communities in the Global South that emit the fewest greenhouse gases are the hardest hit by its consequences. At the same time, countries and companies in the Global North bear the brunt of the historical and ongoing responsibility.
Against this backdrop, climate reparations have become a central point of reference in international debates, social movements, and political processes worldwide. From the perspective of German civil society, they represent the missing link for a comprehensive understanding of climate justice: an apology for colonial crimes, compensation for damages caused, and a guarantee of non-recurrence. Despite growing awareness of the connection between climate catastrophe, colonialism, and racism, the concept of climate reparations remains under-researched and is often misunderstood.
We want to change this together and invite you to our workshop to discuss climate reparations as a decolonial approach in an interactive introduction.
The session will be held in German.
🕘 As part of the conference “Connected – For a fair, global coexistence”
The conference invites participants to discuss global inequalities, colonial continuities, and perspectives for a more just future. Participation is free of charge, but registration is requested.
