One-day symposium
Time is the only resource we cannot increase. We all have the same amount – or equally little – of time. How we (can) use this time, however, is characterized by great inequality and injustice. Ultimately, it is a question of power: who has how much free access to how much time? This is a question that is discussed far too little in our society, where the "glorification of being busy" prevails.
In the day-long symposium "It's Time," we aim to introduce the concept of time affluence as an alternative to a purely material understanding of prosperity and to examine time-related issues within the context of socio-ecological transformation. We will approach the topic from three perspectives: First, we will explore the current state of research on time politics and time culture. Second, there will be workshops on reduced working hours and the four-day week, and participants will share their experiences of time affluence through self-experimentation. Since time and its acceleration and deceleration are experiences that can be gained through the right methods, there will also be workshops on deep ecology and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). In the evening, we look forward to a shared dinner followed by a panel discussion on the role of time politics in the future of work.
We look forward to a day-long symposium with great guests: activists from the 4-Hour League, deep-time expert Karin Schulze, author Greta Taubert, MBSR teacher Kristina Maubach and Dr. Stefan Hoehl from the Association of Hessian Business Associations (VhU).
