Cuts, a shift to the right, economic crisis: Spaces for personal growth are shrinking, exhaustion is on the rise, and many feel powerless and isolated. Yet we need each other and the care we provide for one another: because care work is the foundation of our society. Nothing functions without it. From caring for our sick friends, raising children, and looking after the elderly, to cooking and cleaning at home. From daycare shifts to hospital visits, from group meetings to counseling centers: care work happens in so many places, every day, and most of the time it's either unpaid or poorly paid. It's devalued and exploited, cut back and rendered invisible. Feminist projects are being scrapped, equality positions remain unfilled, and political engagement is being hampered. But what can we do about it?
How can we fight for queer-feminist spaces – against the cutting of funding and the shift to the right?
What stories of solidarity and resistance among workers during the GDR era can we learn from?
How can we inspire and organize more people for feminism and care work – in the workplace, at school, or in clubs?
And how can we build strong intersectional queer-feminist alliances in Saxony that fight for the revaluation of care work?
These questions and more will be addressed at the Educational weekend “For concern! Strengthening queer feminist movements” from 07. – 09.08.26 in Torgau Let's go! In seven workshops, a moderated discussion, and a film screening, we want to explore together how we can remain feminist in these times. In addition to the workshops, there will be an open space (for your spontaneous ideas, workshops, readings, etc.), a cultural program, and food available for a donation. Childcare and an awareness team will be on-site. The program will be conducted in spoken German and English. We will endeavor to accommodate further translation needs.
The educational weekend is an opportunity for us to network, share our own experiences, and learn from and with others.
Look forward to workshops on these topics (provisional):
- Learning from history: The GDR & the struggle of Vietnamese contract workers for (gender) justice
