What holds the world together?

Online series on solidarity in times of crisis

  • Where do you look when you are looking for support in times of global crisis?
  • Who do you ask when you want to find a way to deal with the climate justice crisis?
  • How do you learn to question and change habitual ways of thinking and acting?
  • What do you do if you want to be active in solidarity for connection instead of division?

We will address these questions in seven online events. People from political movements and organizations share their perspectives – through impulses and in conversations.

The series is exciting for you if…

… you are wondering how you can put aspects of global justice and solidarity into practice.

… you are looking for inspiration for (co-)designing learning spaces.

… you are looking for new approaches to tackle challenges in your social or political environment.

… you are curious about new perspectives.

The events will take place online from 4-6 p.m. (CET), most of them in English with interpretation (see note on languages at the respective event).

The events consist of impulses by the speakers followed by a dialog.

Participation is free of charge.

Once upon a time? – What it takes to create a decolonial economy

4-6 pm (online)

Colonial thought patterns and structures still shape todays economy. Current raw materials policies, supply chains and an attachment to economic growth perpetuate colonial principles. If the economy and climate justice are to be reconciled, then we need to take a closer look at which measures really go to the root of global exploitation – and which only appear to contribute to a more sustainable and fairer economy.

What would be the core of a truly decolonial economy? Which struggles are being waged around the world? What are the specific starting points for getting there?

Speaker: Tonny Nowshin is an economist and climate justice activist from Bangladesh. She works to center climate justice in the movement through antiracist and decolonial perspectives.

Discrimination-Sensitive Event Organizing

Organizing – from a feminist and decolonial perspective

4-6 pm (online)

What does it mean to organize (educational) events in a way that is sensitive to discrimination and intersectional? What responsibility do I bear in my role as an organizer or space-holder?

In this event, Amel Yacef shares her own experiences with a special focus on feminist and decolonial approaches. Central topics are: Challenges in the context of allyship and solidarity within feminist and decolonial movements and how to deal with them, as well as power dynamics and how oppression is reproduced and can be deconstructed.

The discussion invites you to reflect on your own work with regard to sensitivity to discrimination and to strengthen your own feminist and decolonial stance as a space holder.

Speaker: Amel Yacef, an Algerian who has lived in Ireland for 25 years, is passionate about social, anti-racist and gender justice and empowering marginalized communities through transformative and healing processes.
